Leave it to Judaism Unbound to do the first-ever unmoderated Anti-Debate 😉
Here’s the story: Judaism Unbound is an expansive Jewish organization devoted to finding unique philosophies of Judaism and paths to living a Jewish life. As many of you may know, the Anti-Debate was partially inspired by the Talmudic practice of ‘hevrutah’ — where people study the Talmud in pairs, because it’s by virtue of having different perspectives that they sharpen each other’s intellect. There’s additional Jewish inspiration in the mix, because Judaism is the spiritual tradition I inherited, and it excels at the art of productive disagreement.
For all of these reasons, Judaism Unbound was keen to try an Anti-Debate — unmoderated! Their unmoderated Anti-Debate explores the question of: Does Judaism need Halacha (Jewish law)? Subsequently, they interviewed me about the Anti-Debate, and elicited some of its pearls of wisdom. Enjoy!
